Earlier this year, we had an incredibly insightful webinar hosted by Shirley Anderson. In the session, we were able to bring our focus back to some of the basics of Goal Setting.
To start we discussed the critical importance of reassessing our business goals. Nobody could have predicted 2020 would bring the challenges and changes we’ve faced this year and it is safe to say that the business goals set out and communicated 4 months ago will need to be revisited. With the end of lockdown insight and a surge of entrepreneurial energy in the air, now is a good time to ensure that the whole team is on the same page.
Due to the fact that our teams are working remotely, it’s more important than ever to ensure that we all feel connected to the business goals and motivated to achieve key objectives. Using tools and processes which allow everybody to have input is imperative. The value of having a system like Placement Partner as a centralised, digital desk which connects the entire team cannot be underestimated.

Before we can begin to think of the company goals, we need to really look closely at the heart of our company. We all agree – that is our people. Getting a clear picture of their current circumstances using Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is a simple and easy way to do that. Additionally, encouraging individuals to set personal goals to share with their team is a great way to ensure that every person can connect their goals to company goals. This is a sure way to create an environment where our entire team feels valued and self-motivated.
As participants in the workshop, we had an opportunity to try our hand at the team goal setting tool. We also had an open discussion with one another around which goals are most important during this time. We then practiced turning our priorities into SMART Goals. We learned that although this is a simple and well-known model, it is actually quite tough in practice, so remember to get the team involved and hash it out together.
